Draumkvædet

The Dream Poem, Draumkvedet, a Norwegian treasure of art from the Catholic middle age. It’s about a man who slept for thirteen days, and had the most peculiar visions. He dreamt that he died, went to the land beyond and then to heaven.
On the evening of Christmas Eve, Olav Aasneson decided to rest a bit, little did he know then about what he was going to experience.

Going around the world, to the bridge which leads to the land of the dead, and beyond. He meets the Devil, bearing an old name of Odin, Jesus, the Virgin Mary and God himself.
And after the angel Michael has made it clear that Ragnarok, the end of the world, is near, every man must prepare to be judged…

If it were not for the work of some dreamers of the 19th century, this wonderful piece of poetry might have left us forever. More than 34 versions of the poem is today known, but no one knows it all.
It’s said that no man is stupid enough to know nothing of Draumkvædet, but neither no man is wise enough to know all of it.
